First Day of Western Civilization

Today was our first day of Western Civilization, it is almost all the same students.  I hope this class is lots of fun.

Geography:
Sea-Important transport routes
Land-mountains cover 3/4 land it is mostly stone.
Climate- 48 degrees in winter and 80 degrees in summer

Mycenaeans:
Greek mainland 2000 b.c.
name came from leading city
located in Southern Greece

Contact w/Minoans:
Saw the value of seaborne trade
Adapted writing system (Greek)

~Westren Civilization has it's roots in the Minoans and Mycenaeans.

Trojan War:
1200's b.c. Mycenaeans vs.Troy
Trojan prince kidnapped Helen the wife of a greek King
Trojan Horse

Greek culture declines under Dorians:
Dorians moved into war torn country side far less advanced then Mycenaeans.

Greece:
Worlds greatest civilizations all located on the water

Region/River:
-Mesopotamia/Tigris and Euphrates
-Egypt/Nile
-India/Indus
-China/Hangtag

Seas:
-Adriatic
-Ionien
-Aegean

Caesar Reforms:  -Granted citizenship to people in provinces -expanded the senate and added his friends -created jobs for the poor, especially the republic work projects -increase pay for soldiers  -started colonies were those without land could own property  Assassination:  -Why?
