Philiosophy and The kindness of human nature

Today in class we discussed more questions to make up think more about life.  The majority of class was spent hearing Mr. Schick tell a story about helping a homeless man and deja vu.  The main point of the story was about Mr.Schick going out of his way to see the good in human nature and the beauty of human nature.  Strangers or not we should be humane to all the people we meet.  He talked about his encounter with a homeless man in Chicago and how getting to know him changed his view on homeless people.  And if you have an open heart and mind you can learn a lot about others and not just judge them off their original appearance.  And this all contributes to the beauty of society through seeing the beauty of human nature.

Notes and Test

In class we took a test. After the test we had to read certain pages of the text book, I made a chart but I don't know how to insert the picture into this blog,  I will try again in the morning.

Test Review and shootings

I was a little surprised today they didn't mention the shooting in the prayer this morning.  Shootings are my biggest fear, what happened in Florida is still shocking to me.  Our world seems to be a mess, It makes me want to be a better and nicer person.  I decided today that for lent I am giving up being negative and picking up genuine positivity.  Life is so precious and realizing the impact of my words and actions to the people around me has really been a wake up call on how I need to be treating others in life.   today in class we reviewed for our test it was pretty boring, I wish we played a review game.

Greek movie

We are currently watching a movies on the Greeks.  The greek had mighty warships they had great achievements that still shape our world. 508 BC Athens city in mainland Greece ordinary people had turned on there leaders demanding freedom after centuries of oppression. One man looked on named Cleisthenes, he had been brought up to look down on the commons with contempt.  He saw the ordinary people should have a chance to govern themselves and change their own destiny, he was an aristocrat.  Aristocrats controlled everything the 6th century b.c..  Athens was more of a village style town it was built around the acropolis.  Life expectancy was short the life in ancient Greece was brute and extremely tough.   Athens was in a sense turned against itself.  The general had no part or share in anything.  Greek does not have unity that is normally associated with great ancient civilizations.  Landscape was full of mountain ranges.  One city state had military power, Sparta.  The spartans were Br

A silent protest

Image
Silence: a good practice of listening to whats around you Silence: A loud form of protest through saying nothing at all Today in class we showed a resilience that only a class with great unity can show staying strong to our cause of silence.  Last class we had a discussion questioning what we are taught and standing for opposition.  Today we practiced our rights in class not using our voices.  It was a powerful example of the tools we can utilize as students and as contributing human beings to society.  We now sit here in silence making a point and sucking on lollipops all in unity.  For one common goal. Also we were equated to this dog: And ended the class with we are the champions.

Greek God and Goddesses

Greek god and goddesses What is unique about the Greek's relationship with their gods is the  interaction  with humans. Poseidon (God of the sea) interfered with Odysseys trying to return home in the Odyssey Aphrodite (Goddess of love) had lovers of both God's and men Dionysus (God of wine) was a son of zeus (a God) and of Semele (a human princess) and on and on and on Today in class we had a long talk about religion.  It was about the many religions, whether they are real, and is there an after life.  Over all class was one big discussion I enjoyed it and the formatting.  Some people in the class state their opinions as fact which makes it hard to join in in the discussion but other then that it was a good class.

Valerie Friar Ellie Hollin Sofia Morello Madison Remeto The Greek Leaders Draco (621 BCE) Draco was an Athenian lawgiver who punished simple crimes with things as harsh as death. He was the first recorded legislator of Athens in Ancient Greece. Instead of using the system of oral laws, he used a written code that could only be enforced by a court. The citizens of Athens thought it would be a great idea to give someone the position of a law giver, but they were unaware of the harsh laws Draco would be establishing. His laws included things such as, murder and involuntary homicide, and debt slavery as a way to repay debts. After much debate, the Athenians decided to revise the laws, in 409 BC. Draco’s law code was later regarded as intolerably harsh, especially in regards to punishing trivial crimes with death. Solon (594 BCE) The second leader of Greece that began to make significant reforms in Greek society is Solon. Solon was born in Athens some time around 638 BCE.
