Migration

Net Migration: The difference between the number of people entering and leaving a country per year. A country excess of persons entering the country is NET MIGRATION. -which is written as a positive number\ An excess of persons leaving the country is net EMIGRATION. Why do people migrate?:                  -push war environmental degrader unemployment ethnic and religious persecution  -pull better economy better health service religious freedom political freedom Today we also reviewed our test grades.  I got an 81 which was one of the lowest grades in the class.  I thought the test was pretty hard.  It was very frustrating to me how late we received our test grades back.  It was annoying not knowing them sooner and stressed me out to the max.

Population pt.2

I will write down the notes for this blog and update it once I find my notebook which seems to have gone missing... Somethings I remember though are.. The women have the highest rate of death acceptantcy in the world with 93.58. Crude birth rate is the number of births person per one thousand people and the crude death rate is, well, the number of deaths per one thousand people. Mr.Schick talked about why life expectancy in almost every country in the world it is higher for women, then for men. We came to the reason that men do more dangerous jobs than women.

Population and Settlement

Population and Settlement: -7.5 billion people in America right now -8377 people being born per hour -149 people being born per minute -2.5 people being born a second. But at the same time many people are being born every minute.   Ninety percent of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America.  In 1804 there was around one billion people in the world.  Over the time span of 123 years in 1927 there was two billion people in the world.  In 1960 which was 33 years later there was around three billion people in the world. Till 2011 it has gradually risen buy a billion throughout the past century.  Leaving us were we are now at 7.58 billion. Life Expectancy:The average number of years to be lived. (Highest) Monaco-Total 89.52 men-85.63 women-93.58 U.S.A-Total-79.68 men-72.32 women-81.97 (Lowest)Chad-total-49.81 men-48.64 women-51.03

After Test

Today all we did in class was take a test.  It was sort of fun, but the essay took a long time to write. Today I had a lot of tests and so did I yesterday.  Today I had soccer practice it was fine because we didn't have to run a lot.  The quarter is ending tomorrow and I am trying very hard to get my grades up.  There isn't anything to write so I will leave it here.

lots of tears

Most of class today was spent talking about dogs.   Unfortunately Mr.Schicks dog passed away to doggy heaven yesterday.  He told us all about Michaels last day on earth which prompted many girls in our class to actually cry real tears.  When Mr.Schick Brough up the pictures of the dogs many girls in the back rows lost their emotional grip on life for a few moments and balled in front of the entire class.  Then this led into a gruesome details of many deaths and near death experiences of many animals, which led to... you guessed it... more tears.  Today has seemed very long I have been starving all day and am so tired.  Also I have a very bad head ache tonight, so I am just going to write a short blog because my head hurts to think.  I feel like the school year is starting to kick in full swing and I am just so tired every night

Globalization

"Think globally act locally"-means global problems that need to be fixed and acted on, on a more local scale.  More contemporary geographers like to say "Think and act both global and local."  All scales are important in geography the appropriate scale depends on the specific subject.  Geography matters in the contemporary world because that how we explain human actions at all scales.  At national scales an example of the need for geography is the growth of population rapidly increasing or decreasing.   -globalization: is a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope. It means that the scale of the world is shrinking, this does not mean shrinking in size, but more like shrinking in the ability for one person to talk to or relate with something else far away.  The world only has very few isolated people who have never watched a tv, rode in a car, or used a cellphone.     Globalization: 1. the act or proc

Global vs. Local

A local scale such as an urban neighborhood.  Geographers tend to see unique features. At a global scale encompassing the entire world, geographers tend to see broad patterns. Variables have either  global  or  local  scope. A  global  variable exists only once in a script, and is visible in every function. Modifications to it in one function are permanent and visible to all functions. Unless declared otherwise, all variables in a script are  global . Helpful for studying: coordinate systems other than the global coordinate system. you can specify restraints and loads in any desired direction. Example: defining a force on a cylindrical face, you can apply it in the radial, circumferential or axial directions. similarly if you choose a spherical face, you can choose the radial, longitude, or latitude directions. in addition, you can use reference planes and axes.

A Weekend Blog

On Friday we finished drawing our world map and labeling all the countries also we looked again at the website to find interesting facts about countries.  The country I looked up was a small island that had a smaller population then Hartford county.  We also heard about Antartica having 23 airports! Faith and I were looking up dream houses and vacations, which really made me want to go on vacation to a tropical island.  Our soccer game went very good faith scored a goal!!!!!  The team we played was not very good though.  Then I went to babysit my neighbors it was super fun.  This morning I went to lacrosse camp it was very fun, I really liked the atmosphere and high intensity.  It was for North Carolina and I will be flying to North Carolina during Christmas time to do lacrosse camp.  I am so so excited.  Then I babysat again tonight.  Now I am writing this to tell you about all these interesting things that happened this weekend.

Pop Quiz Day

Today in class we took a pop quiz, which I failed and learned about this new website.  It was very annoying to have a pop quiz especially with information we haven't gone over.  Also I was very sick yesterday and almost fell asleep because I was so tired and not feeling good.  I still have a stuff nose today but I have a game so I still have to come to school and tough it out.  I am very excited for our soccer game because my leg is starting to feel better.  I wrote this in off mod but for some reason it didn't send through.  I am very tired.  Also today I had a lip-sync battle with my soccer team.  It was very very very funny.  Also I got pizza which was so good because I was so hungry.

Latitude and Longitude

geographic coordinate system  is a coordinate system used in geography that enables every location on Earth to be specified by a set of numbers, letters or symbols. The coordinates are often chosen such that one of the numbers represents a vertical position, and two or three of the numbers represent a horizontal position. The  Geographic grid  is a system of imaginary arcs drawn in a grid pattern on Earth’s surface. –Meridians are arcs drawn between the North and South poles. Each is numbered, according to a system known as longitude. -Values range from 0º (prime meridian) to 180º east or west longitude. –Parallels are arcs drawn parallel to the equator and at right angles to meridians. Each is numbered, according to a system known as latitude. Values range from 0º (equator) to 90º north or south

Shadow and Class Color did happen in the past, future, or present????

Today I had another shadow.  It was a little bit awkward since it was class color day and everyone was acting crazy.  In class we talked about timezones.  Timezones are regions of a globe that observe a uniform standard time.  They tend to follow the boundaries of countries and there subdivision. -Earth as a sphere is divided into 360 degrees of longitude. -Divide 360 degrees by twenty-four time zones equal fifteen. -Each fifteen degree band of longitude is assigned to a standard time zone. -GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is located at the prime meridian (which is 0 degrees longitude) How time was invented: Scottish-born Canadian Sir Sandford Fleming proposed a worldwide system of time zones in 1879. He advocated his system at several international conferences, and is thus credited with the instigation of "the initial effort that led to the adoption of the present time meridians." In 1876, his first proposal was for a global 24-hour clock, conceptually located at the center

Sat's and My Day

Today in class we talked about the purposes of SAT's and PSAT's.  Also we finished going over our regional maps based on location and way that one votes.  Today's theme for spirit week was tropical.  Most kids wore Hawaiian t-shirts with flowers and leis.  At freshmen/sophomore lunch the sophomores were gone at there class picnic outside.  This a very nice change that I very much enjoyed because the lunch room was much quieter.  It would be very relaxing if it was like that everyday.  After school I had soccer, but something very exciting happened because my coach did not  show up so we had a short practice and no running.  Then I watched my sisters field hockey game which they won in an exciting game decided in the final seconds.  I got a lot of English homework but the good thing is I don't have English for the rest of the week!1

Region and Cultural Landscape

The sense of place that humans possess that applies to a larger area of space.   Ex: Whiteford vs. Baltimore. Region-An area of earth defined by one or more distinctive characteristics. -larger then a point -smaller then the earth -several neighboring countries that share important features -many locations within a county. Cultural Landscape: 1.An area fashioned from nature by a cultural group. 2.A combination of physical and human characteristics that uniquely define an area. Today in class we got our tests back but didn't review them.
